Celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the 1947 Roswell Crash Roswellian Style!

Happy 60th Anniversary of the 1947 Roswell Crash!
1947~2007

The Roswell UFO Incident involved the recovery of materials near Roswell, New Mexico, USA, in July 1947, which have since become the subject of intense speculation, rumor, questioning and research. There are widely divergent views on what actually happened, and passionate debate about what evidence can be believed. The United States military maintains that what was recovered was a top-secret research balloon that had crashed. However, many UFO proponents believe the wreckage was of a crashed alien craft and that the military covered up the craft's recovery. The incident has turned into a widely-recognized and referenced pop culture phenomenon, and for some, Roswell is synonymous with UFO and likely ranks as the most famous alleged UFO incident.

Roswell is a sci-fi series created by Jason Katims. The series ran between October 1999 and May 2002. Described by one reviewer as "a star-crossed teen-age love story with an otherworldly twist" (Roberts, Associated Press, September 29, 1999), the series focused on teenaged aliens hiding in plain sight as humans in Roswell, New Mexico. The aliens are survivors of the 1947 UFO crash popularly known as The Roswell Incident. The love story comes into play when Max Evans (an alien), played by Jason Behr, and Liz Parker (a human), played by Shiri Appleby, fall in love.

The series pilot was based on the Roswell High young adult book series, written by Laura J. Burns , Melinda Metz and published by Pocket Books. In some countries, the TV series aired under the Roswell High title.

This thread is open to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the 1947 Roswell Crash but it is also a celebration to our beloved show Roswell. For after all if the 1947 Roswell Crash didn't happen then we would not have the show Roswell. Roswell was the show that touched our lives in so many and continues to do so even today.

In 1947 the Roswell Crash shook up a nation and made UFO's main stream.

In 1999 Roswell came into our lives and we were never the same. It was the show that touched our lives and made us believe in so many things.

Please share you stories, photos, and memories that has made Roswell so much a part of our lives and to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the 1947 Crash that made it all possible.

ROSWELL, N.M. - Businesses here have been cashing in on the UFO craze for years - paintings and replicas of UFOs and space aliens adorn downtown buildings, and even the McDonald's and Wal-Mart are UFO- and space-themed.

Now Roswell officials want a UFO-themed amusement park, complete with an indoor roller coaster that would simulate an alien abduction.

"Nobody will be harmed, and everybody will be returned, hopefully, in the same shape," concept designer Bryan Temmer said.

The Alien Apex Resort could open as early as 2010. The city has received a $245,000 legislative appropriation for initial planning, but the park would be privately built and managed.

The park initially would cover 60 to 80 acres, with room to expand to 150 acres. Its other rides and attractions would include an exhibit hall with information on scientific exploration of the universe.

"It's not just about the Roswell Incident and did it happen," said Temmer, of Land O' Lakes, Fla.

The Roswell Incident, of course, has brought the southeastern New Mexico city worldwide acclaim. It centers on the 1947 crash of a purported UFO that the military later said was a top-secret weather balloon.

Temmer, who describes himself as a fan of theme parks and science fiction, pitched the concept to Roswell leaders two years ago.

"I knew there was only one place on the planet, probably in the universe, where this idea would work," he said.

The project would cost "several hundred millions of dollars," city planner Zach Montgomery said.

He said the city was considering six sites but declined to identify them, other than to say each is within city limits or could be annexed. He also would not identify potential operators, but said at least four major corporations approached about the idea were excited.

Some business owners said the theme park was necessary to keep tourists returning.

Sharon Welz is an owner of the Roswell Space Center, a T-shirt and souvenir shop just off Main Street. She said visitors often complained they would like to see and do more during trips to the town of about 50,000.

"We would welcome something like an alien roller coaster or a theme park, absolutely," she said. "How can it hurt us?"

Montgomery agreed, saying the top complaint by tourists during the city's UFO festival each summer was that there was not enough to do.

The town's biggest tourism attraction is the International UFO Museum and Research Center, which has drawn 2.5 million visitors since opening in 1992. Beyond that, Roswell is largely boutiques like the one run by Welz.

"We're still in the infancy of our UFO-related economic development," Montgomery said. "Eventually, when people come to Roswell they're not going to have enough time to do everything they want to do. That's our goal."
