Welcome to the thread everyone! I thought this would be a good film to discuss with it being based on a true story & also award season. It's about 2 amateur wrestlers & a multi-millionaire that's relationship takes a tragic turn. I have yet to see this film, but am looking forward to watching it. I was wondering if any of you knew of this story before the film was made. I did not.

I'm excited to see it too. It'll be cool seeing Steve Carrell play a more serious role! Or crazy role, as it seems!

Well it wasn't up for a ton of Oscars though. Not even for ''Best Picture''. Steve Carol was nominated for ''Best Actor'' though. Pro Wrestler & Olympic Gold Medalist Kurt Angle trained at Foxcatcher in 1996 for the Summer Olympics that year & was a friend of Dave Schultz has stated that he & others should have known how dangerous John Du Pont was, based on his behavior & the fact that he carried a gun everywhere.

I watched it. It was an interesting movie, I didn't get bored.
Steve Carell was a surprise, definitely deserved his nomination. I liked also Channing Tatum, he had a difficult role to play and he got it well... I would like to be a nominee...

you rarely see one nominated and not the other. I think Steve was because it was such a dramatic turn than what he's been doing for so many years.

he's touched on them with dark comedy like Dan in Real Life and Little Miss Sunshine (he was fantastic in that).

Little Miss Sunshine is one of my favorite movies. It's a very dark comedy...but so so so so so amazing. All star cast and Alan Arkin won an Oscar for his performance in it.

I watched ''Foxcatcher'' last night & it was very good. All the actors I thought did well. Now the film concludes with the murder of Dave Schultz, but during the actual trial the defense expert's psychiatric witness described du pont as a ''paranoid schizophrenic who believe Dave Schultz was part of a conspiracy to kill him.'' du pont pleaded ''not guilty by reason of insanity. The insanity plea was thrown out. du pont ended up having to pay Dave's widow Nancy $35,000,000 in a wrongful death suit.

Also in 2013 Liseter Hall of du pont's was torn down to make room for over 400 homes.

I've yet to see this film. But it's gotten a lot of great reviews, and I'm intrigued by it simply because it's a very serious role for Carell and his Oscar nomination included.

I like that he's escaping boundaries to not be a stereotyped actor.

I still very much wanna see this but am scared to blind buy it like I did Whiplash, Birdman and Theory of Everything
