There aren't enough cute guys who wear glasses around where I live. But I remember I had a crush on a guy with glasses two years ago, he looked so cute in them.

And the sad thing is, I've met guys that are almost that clueless. Not the the Ryoki point of clueless, but still pretty clueless. It's funny, but then after a while, I feel like hitting some 'woman knowledge' into them!

At work, we found out the wife of one of the guys we worked with was having a birthday. We asked him what he got her, and his answer was "Nothing. Why? We've been together for 10 years." You think he'd want another ten years.

Ryoki was more programmed than raised. His cluelessness is explained a little more later on. He really has no concept of family or relationships.

I've been re-reading Volume 5 (Chapter 23) when he figures out what a "consensual" kiss is.

OMG! What did you guys say to him after that? Such a typical clueless male. How could a woman not want a gift for birthday? And from someone who she has been with for 10 years, no less?

That makes it sound like Ryoki is a little machine, programmed, and not raised.

Oh yeah, that scene! Doesn't he go, "Hmm....that feels nice cause it's a consensual kiss..." (or something like that.)

Not to mention they have a couple of kids too. Well, we all got mad at him and kept nagging him to get a decent gift. My dad was clueless like that too. Once he got my mother a 1000+ page financial planning book for Christmas. She was so mad. He wrote her a check too (planted in the middle of the book), but still...

I guess Ryoki isn't alone.

He was treated like a little machine a bit. Get the best grades, look good, do this, do that. He had tutors since he was a small child. The only affectionate relationship he has is with the maid. I think that's why he made Hatsumi his "slave". He associates love and affection with people you order around, IMO.

I was trying to scan the "consensual" scene last night, but it didn't work out.
