Sophies

In Episode 5.03, Written in the Stars, Logan tells Rory that she should call him "Master and Commander."

Master and Commander is the first of Patrick O'Brian's novels about Jack Aubrey. Sophie is the square-rigged ship that Aubrey is Master and Commander of, and those who crew in her refer to themselves as Sophies. It is the ship where Jack Aubrey first makes his name.

So, it is in this spirit that those who ship the Master and Commander and His Lady are known as: Sophies.

There will be a further twist on down the line as far as the direction that Logan’s going to go for the last chunk of the season. Kristin in E!Online interviews Matt Czuchry: He thinks that Rory and Logan's storyline would resonate with young adults because it highlights the tension of Logan taking on his family responsibilities, and Rory finding out what she wants for herself professionally. He thinks Rory should remain single if this were the last season [in reaction to Kristin's comment about a "big Rory and Logan wedding"].

From GGMinn: Rory will have no new love interest.

Alan Sepinwall of The Star Ledger chats with DR at the CW party: "The first part of the season is (Logan and Rory) trying to deal with a long-distance relationship. Something will come and change that."

Maureen Ryan of The Chicago Tribune quotes Dave Rosenthal: "We have the benefit of seeing the future and knowing where we want to take them. So while something may be disturbing in the short run, or upsetting or confusing to a fan, we as the writers recognize that, yes, that’s upsetting but ultimately that's the journey that this character has to go on, they're required to do this or that...ultimately we're interested in personal growth. Either that or it will be just a lot of phone calls to Rory, which is going to get tiring! But either way, I will be there."

At the moment I'm torn between posting and lurking at the Spoiler Board or staying away from it alltogether.

Was the L/L breakup last year announced this early?
My friend and I were wondering why this R/L breakup came out now (a month ago) and not later...to see the reaction of the fans?
And I really don't know if you can deduce anything from it for Season 8.
Why give MC a contract where other series are second-in-line if they have Rory and Logan split.

Maybe the "bittersweet" separation will be the "parting as soul-mate friends" that MC hoped for.

Sandra Starck We got sides at about this time last year, with the last scene included, which made the ending pretty clear for Partings. Even if we were in denial for months until the new season started.

I understand the "testing the waters" idea but they are shooting 21 now and 22 will have been written by now. But as always rewrites can happen even while shooting and nothing is final until it airs, just look at FT this season!

It was announced in the beginning of April, but don't forget that it was for ep. 22 and not 21, like the RL ones seems like it'll be.

Has anyone mentioned that school related dream that Rory has? Could that have freaked her out enough to get a "no" from her?

I'm keeping up hope that maybe they'll end on an optimistic note for RL. Maybe having Rory really think about this for awhile, then possibly calling Logan in the finale. Not to give him a yes, but maybe to talk to him and why she said no, and that maybe there will be a yes sometime soon?

I'm really sad at the moment, there are two things I really hate about this "saying no to Logans proposal".

Logan proposing to Rory on her graduation day has been one of the biggest dreams of the Sophiefans (how many fanfic writers used this scenario?) and now all the unspoilered RL fans will watch this scene and will be so happy, I can really imagine how romantic Logan's proposal will be (if they show it in a typical Logan style) and then Rory says "NO". That's just cruel; I won' t be able to watch it. Why breaking up this way, why would they want to dissapoint so many faithful viewers?

I'm also really worried that GG could end with me not liking Rory, Rory was my main reason to watch GG and only thinking about the spoilers makes me mad at Rory and I hate this feeling!!

Maybe the "seperated ways" mean that they want different things at this moment ... maybe it's because she says no ... maybe there is no breaking up ... oh my god, I want to be so hopeful

I will be peeved if this is how they end Rory and Logan and it is a series not season finale. The way all my favourite shows are going this season (several have jumped shark) it won't surprise me if this is how they end it.

I would feel different if it was a season finale as there would be hope but not in a series finale.

I hate the Rory & Logan proposal spoiler also but someone told me (they are a R&L supporter as I said) and they have no reason to lie, so unless they got sent a foiler we can only hope it is an old spoiler that may not turn out true or not in the way we are thinking. But I have no reason to doubt the source.

I was very sad last night, but after thinking on it, maybe Rory just doesn't feel ready to take that next step right at this moment. Maybe Logan proposes impulsively, and after seeing what happened to Lorelai and Chris, and being the kind of careful person she is, she doesn't want to get married on impulse. Maybe she wants to have some career fun for a year or two before planning a big wedding.

Logan could be very understanding about this, too. Now that he has left the family business, he needs to find his own way. Why the rush to get married?

So, I'm thinking a S8 is on, and RL will work their way back to each next year.

Once again, the writers are utterly inconsistent. This is a ridiculous way to go. All season has been about them working through problems, coming back together and understanding one another. They were the anti-L/L, more stable, more mature, and much better communication.

I had always hoped that Rory would overcome her mother's intimacy issues. That she would truly "have it all" but I guess that is not to happen. I'm done with the show--I don't think I've even watched the last new episode. This season has been a disaster.

OK, I have three scenarios I'm willing to except. Anything else I will block from my memory.

1. This is a huge foiler so that everyone is surprised by an engagement/elopement/something else along those lines.

2. There's a spoiler the episode 21 will have "some kind of dream sequence with Rory's desk". So maybe she dreams the proposal and breakup that these sources have heard about and it's really just a dream sequence that will make her think about their relationship and make her realize that he's 'the one'.

3. They do end up splitting up, but it's more of a 'I need to try things on my own for a bit but I still love you and always will'/'I'll wait for you' scenario.

Those are my options. I will remain foolishly optimistic until I have no choice otherwise, and then I will go beat DR upside the head with a rubber chicken.
