I'm pretty sure his dad gave him the car b/c in "Dean Man's Blood" John says "Dean why don't you fix up your car i wouldn't of given you the d**n thing if i thought you were gonna ruin it" but i'm not sure when he got it...

I watched Bloodlust again yesterday(gotta have my daily SN fix) and oh boy they surely flaunted about the Impala's return! I bet they showed the front hubcaps like a dozen times, Impala from the right front angle, left front angle, here's the wheels spinning, brmm brmmm... And I was all and having a great time!
