TFTNT!

Last night's episode was alright, but it was also kind of a tease. Good news was I definitely want more. Bring on next week and FAST!

I kind of love the otherside. Everyone is so badass and awesome. And the other Olivia seems like a happier version.

Peter's scenes with his mom were so touching. And you could tell that it was equal parts joy and awkwardness for him to be spending time with her. I also felt that he still really cares about the memory of his "mother from the other side" despite everything that he found out about himself.

Random thoughts on the latest episode:

- Something seemed off with the pacing. It took more than half the episode for them to get to the other side, but at the same time, I feel like a lot of it was kinda easy (the crossing over part, for example). I have concluded that it seems like this episode probably had a lot of extra minutes they had to cut to get down to 43 mins, so what we get sometimes seems a bit choppy or... something. I dunno.

- Where was Newton? Did he come back with Walternate or is he still on our side? I hope he hasn't disappeared from the show for good. I mean, we still don't know why he was working for the Secretary. Was he just a soldier doing his job and following orders or did he have some other motive? I actually liked him and would like to see him again.

- No mention of the Blight. I thought there were no trees on the other side? I'm trying to remember what Newton said exactly. In this episode they mentioned they couldn't have 'another Boston', does that mean the Blight had only affected Boston on the other side?

- What few scenes Peter had they were great. I elaborated more in the Peter thread, but I think Orla Brady and Josh worked really well together.

- Not enough Astrid. Seriously, they need more Astrid.

- I always enjoy seeing Ella and Rachel, since I quite enjoy the softer/caring side that Olivia shares with them.

- If Walternate turns out to be simply an evil bad guy with no grey area, that will actually be kinda disappointing. For any real, intersting conflict between Walter/Peter/Walternate surely Walternate needs to be motivated by something other than a hunger for destruction. Trying not to judge too soon though, we really need to know more about what his plans are etc.

- Loved seeing Charlie again! And liked that the Alternate Fringe Division also seemed like they enjoyed working as a team.

- Broyles rocks - that is all.

- Overall I felt a tad disappointed since the trailer rocked so much. But it is a 2-parter finale so I guess they needed to do a bit of setting up for next week. Second viewing of the first part was more enjoyable for me.

I think last night's episode was a "setup" episode. Things were just being put into motion. I think the big payoff will be next week.

I decided to watch the ep twice before commenting since this was definitely an exercise in paying attention! After the first viewing I thought, "What? That's it?" I thought it was rather uneventful, but I know it's just the set-up.

In reply somewhat to Seersha, above, I thought this ep's story seemed very rushed. Like, they got a team together and they're on the Other Side already! Whoa! We go from 'a glimmer shows us stuff' to 'the Cortexiphan team is over there (with no plan, really, as Broyles said) and they're IN action'.

Anyway, I kinda liked the Other Side to some degree too. However, and this is a big however, althought they're obviously much more technologically advanced, they've also been more obviously Big Brother'ed. Their "Show Me" identification seems to be used for everything, and that seems to be okay with them. They can discover breaches in their system with DNA detection. Who liked the Richard Nixon dollar coin? And the fact that they keep their Statue of Liberty spit-shine polished?

Now, as to the plot development, I don't believe that Walternate is intrinsically evil. I think he rose to the level of power he has in order to mitigate Elizabeth's pain of the loss of Peter 22 years before. If only they knew the real story of how both Walters worked together to save Peter, then this whole end of the world business could be avoided.

Loved how Alter-Olivia had love in her life. They seemed to be from the same unit and she knew more than he did. The exact opposite of her relationship with John Scott. (Anyone notice that Alter-Olivia's boyfriend was the same guy who, on This Side, tried to stop Broyles from going into Nina's office? Everybody's useful!)

As for Peter... first of all no shirt in the bed. Nice freckles. Loved how he first said "hi" to his mother. Josh knows how to just kick us in the stomach with the emotion, doesn't he? Can't wait for next week, but then that'll be IT for the next four months. Gotta soak every second of it in!

I actually loved this episode, it left me dying for next week. I might actually watch it again and I have never watched this show twice.

And it looks like Fox's gamble to move Fringe to Thursdays last year paid off! We needn't have worried.

It held its own on a tough night and FOX (thankfully) recognized that. Such a relief!

Also, LOST and Heroes fans need a sci-fi mythology-based show to watch now!

I sure hope we can get some of the Lost crowd to cross over to this show. From what I heard about the Lost fans it is a strong going fanbase.

I think as long as Fringe is part procedural/part serialised then most Lost fans aren't going to flock to Fringe.

Those fans want a totally serialised show like Lost. Fringe, based on some remarks, is too slowly paced and not quick enough with revealing things. It would be great though, because we really need more people watching this show, if there is to be a season 4.

My little daughter just screemed 'Daddy!" at my pc screen. Guess what pictures I was drooling over? I think it's great that she shares my taste in men though.

As a self-proclaimed LOST fan, I have been loyal to that show from the very beginning--even when it has been less than its best. I started watching FRINGE because of my love of all things JJ (all JJ Abrams' shows and Josh, of course). I can honestly say that FRINGE is a far better show right now than LOST currently is, and I am crossing my fingers extra-hard that other Losties figure that out and come flocking.
