I had this huge post typed up about this movie, when realising it was in a thread dedicated to something entirely different. And since we currently don't have a thread for this excellent movie (guess it must've been pruned), I decided we needed one.

No time to re-type what I said in the post I never posted... (I'm too tired from doing laundry and having been outdoors all day to make much sense right now) at the moment, but I will be back with some thoughts when I find a few moments!

Discuss the movie all you like here!

Two words about this movie -

Outstanding Performances.

This is a movie that holds near and dear to my heart, mainly because I love movies about courage and above all learning to accept yourself of who you are no matter what. Every time this movie is on, I have to sit and watch it. Eric Stoltz was robbed of an Oscar for this role, he acted Rocky Dennis to the core, along w/ Cher and Sam Elliott were great as well. The supporting cast of Laura Dern, Dennis Burkley, Estelle Getty, and Lawrence Monsonon were great too.

Great movie.

ETA - I have to get this movie one of these days, in fact, it is one movie that I always cry at the end. Always. Geez, I am such an emotional person when it comes to movies like these.

This movie is great! We watched it so many times in school as part of social studies class and we'd always discuss it afterwards and we'd have to write what we learned from it.

AM - you're absolutely right about the outstanding performances. Everyone was excellent, and most especially the leads Eric Stoltz (he's always proven himself to be a GREAT actor), Cher (very, very convincing in this role) and Sam Elliot (and it isn't a bad thing he's good looking either ).

I always cry at the end too.

Charlize'sAngel - how that you were able to see it in social studies class. Can you recall any details about what was being discussed? Yeah I am the curious type of person.

I saw this movie for the first time a little while ago on WE! and it ended up being a whole lot better than I thought it would be. I really liked it.

It's been awhile since I saw the movie. Let's see if I find a few moments to bring out the dvd and watch it again sometime soon.
