Thank You for Smoking (2005) #1

This movie has Aaron Eckhart (In the Company of Men), William H Macy, Maria Bello, Katie Holmes (weak at points but fine at the end) and many others. It was an excellent dark comedy. Very well cast. VERY funny. I was surprised about the use of Nick Naylor's son how they explained Nick's job to him and everything. Interesting angle.

I think I'm going to read the book because I've heard it's really great too.

This movie seems like it'd be entertaining.

Thanks shrrshrr We definitely seem to have similar tastes in movies!

There are some great lines in this one...

"The great state of Vermont will not apologize for its cheese!" - Senator

"...don't ruin my childhood!" - Joey

"My job requires a certain...moral flexibility" - Nick

The cast was really excellent - great zingers, great cameos (Rob Lowe especially), fun dialogue...really well done. Nick's lunches with the other MODs (merchants of death) are always funny and the Career Day scene with Nick in his son's school? Priceless.

Well, you can't really go wrong with William H. Macy in my book, but I remember hearing when it first came out that people thought it missed it's target as far as humor was concerned. I disagree.

Oh I disagree as well. I think the humor is spot on. Just the right blend! Down but never out...an interesting theme.

And William H Macy is a God among men The guy could read the phone book and make it good.

Anyone know the name of the first song they played when the credits rolled at the end?

Has anyone read the novel that this was based on? I've heard it's pretty funny in reviews of the movie but haven't known anyone that's read the booka s well and can compare it to the movie.

No, I looked for it last time I was at the bookstore but it was sold out. I really enjoyed the movie, though. So I'm looking forward to the book.
