Cranny Myths
Cranny was all about physical attraction.
Lots of ppl are under the impression that craig only liked manny in season 3 because of her change of attire. we ****s beg to differ. In season 2 craig liksd manny in GJWHF, and episode where manny was not revealing any underwear nor wearing extensive make up. This was at a time that manny santos was cute little insignifcant manny that none of the guys noticed. Jt and Sully both did not really care for manny until her change of attire and spinner made it clear that he woulnt have even looked at manny if it wasnt for her change of attire. Remember when manny asked spaige the question about whether a guy like sully would be interested in her? spin responded, "in you?" basically saying that manny wouldnt be able to get a popular/hott guy with the way she was dressed at the time. Craig was none of these ppl, he liked her at a time where she wasnt too noticeable and he even called her beauitful in TMBA when she was still cute & adorable manny.
Cranny was all about sex.
i think this is one of the most ridiculous myths of all because for one, in order to be all about sex you have to be constantly having sex----in which cranny werent. They had sex ONCE, they might have tried o have sex in AAO but after that sex was unheard of in their relaionship. Craig also made it clear that he liked manny, thats why he said, "manny's not sweet, caring, talented, fun, just hot?" pretty much asking spin why did spin only think thats all there is to manny because he saw more. He even contemplated leaving a long term relationship with ashley for a short term relationship with manny.
Manny stalked Craig
This is such a ridiculous statement that it almost doesn't warrent being put in the myths section. But it's been said enough by some anti-Cranny fans. Stalking is very serious business. It involves obsession, power and control, and an unhealthy need to constantly be around a certain person, like persistant following. Manny did none of this. She pursued Craig, which is a huge difference. Manny saw Craig as someone she wanted to be with and she went after him the exact same way a guy pursues a girl. She did not obsess over Craig or try to be around him all the time. If you want to say Manny pursuing a guy is 'stalking', then why is Craig not in the wrong for following Manny to the rave in AAO and watching her, for going after her in Holiday at least twice, for taking incriminating photos of Manny in AILMH, etc.? Craig engaged in the exact same behavior because he too at the time was trying to pursue Manny (the exception possibly being AILMH). Manny being a girl does not make her a stalker and it's irrelevant that Craig was in a relationship with Ashley when Manny pursued Craig. That still does not mean that she stalked him. Again, stalking is serious business and it's not right to falsely accuse someone of it just because you dislike when a girl pursues a guy with a girlfriend.
Ashley Was a Better girlfriend and Manny hasn't changed at all.
In all honesty, I think Venus was another turning point for Manny, not only with gaining self-esteem but also with discovering that she doesn't need to care about what people think. Clearly Venus showed us that Manny hadn't gotten over the abortion and the stigma of that but after Venus I think she had to shed a lot of her guilt in order to move on. I think the reason she hasn't "confronted" Craig is because she doesn't need to. He came to her, he showed her that he cares. Frankly, in WPA. she wasn't looking to become Craig's girlfriend. He made that choice and I think Manny is secure about that, more secure than she's been about anything.
Second, Ashley did NOT make Craig a better boyfriend. First off, you can't make someone a better partner when you're not being a good one yourself. Also, post-ND, Craig was constantly trying to prove he was a good boyfriend to make up for what he did in s3. Examples, giving up his friends and the band for Ashley. That's not being a good anything because if one person is constantly giving up things in the relationship it's uneven. Finally, post-VC, Craig's need to prove himself increased as he now not only had to prove that he was a good boyfriend but also that he was sane (in the face of Ashley's constant questioning). Ashley didn't make him a better boyfriend, she made him contantly try to prove he could be a better boyfriend.
One of the great things about Cranny is that neither one of them has ever had to prove themselves to each other. When Manny is around Craig she has the confidence and the self-esteem to get things done without the need to prove herself. And when Craig is around Manny it's not about continuously making up for what he did or proving that he's not sick. IMHO, that's the sign of a healthy working relationship.
MYTH: In Craig's life Manny always plays second fiddle
This is untrue. In fact, throughout s3 Manny tends to come first in Craig's life. Essentially, by choosing to cheat with Manny, Craig goes out of his way to ruin his relationship. Some would say that trimming the tree with Ashley in Holiday and speaking quickly with Manny was a "diss" but it wasn't. At that point, Emma knows about Manny and Craig, so he couldn't invite her over for tree-trimming 'cause Emma's family was there and he is trying to keep up the farce of his relationship. But Craig goes out of his way to buy Manny not 1 but 2 Christmas presents and get them to her before her family leaves town on vacation. Furthermore, he goes backstage at the Christmas pageant (a public place where they could be seen by anyone including Angie who isn't known for keeping secrets) because he can't stay away.
Season four is iff, though there are some examples. Craig goes out of his way to warn Spinner away from Manny (a classic jealous move) but cannot stay away from her himself (AWILMH). Craig agrees to play the carwash knowing Manny was organizing despite the fact that he also knew Ashley would be playing with Downtown Sasquatch. He also took pictures at the event (which Manny did not ask for but he did anyway to document HER event).
Finally, season 5 we see Craig going out of his way to protect Manny from Peter. After they start dating, he is the typical attentive boyfriend from WPA until the debacle that is TF. So where does this myth come from? In essence, I believe that it is the writers and not Craig who treats Manny as second best. It wasn't until s3 that Manny's character became a front-runner on the show. After the fallout of the Cranny/Crash triangle, Manny hovered between being what she was before (a sidekick) and her new stardom. Despite Cassie's success, growing fanbase and winning the coveted season opener episode, the rest season 5 repositioned Manny back into her sidekick role and relegated her to the background and subplots (which deviated from Degrassi's usual structure of giving season opener characters 1 to 2 major plotlines throughout the season).
Therefore, it's my conclusion that Cassie, and by association Manny, is woefully underused and if the writers take her for granted, it's no wonder that other characters would as well.

i think sometimes manny makes certain mistakes because ppl expect her to. i felt that way about Venus. a lot of ppl around her including her father and her best friend ("manny you always scew up") in a way expect her to fail so sometimes she just roles with what everyone thinks. i think she uses the acting to expand beyond that. but generally she just follows what others say(like in OLAS) because she's afraid of what ppl think if she rebelled. she shouldnt care what others think, but she probably feels like the only way to have friends or company is by being a people-pleaser.

i think craig being that one that doesnt judge her makes her feel like his intentions are more pure than others. and i dont blame her for that cuz considering the GJWHF/UGTL factors, i would think the same thing.

Yea for thread #41! I agree with Leigh that Manny has self-confidence issues. I believe her "You're jealous" remarks are a defense mechanism for many of her own self-confidence issues (whether the person in question was really jealous or not). I do agree that Craig is the person that Manny feels doesn't judge her, and I believe that Craig doesn't judge Manny. I think it's laughable if some think that even if Cranny break-up they'll never interact again and Crash will ride together in the sunset, cue the happy music. I know I keep saying this, but Cranny is just as important to the show as Crash is. They are part of the bedrock. It won't come off as believable if Manny falls in love with some other guy next season and forgets all about Craig. There was ample opportunity since season 2 for that to happen, and it hasn't. Craig has been mentioned in every single relationship that Manny has had. He's definitely her constant guy. I would rather they have a single Manny if anything or better yet a single Ashley.

yay new title. im in such a good mood. i cant wait til the last epi of s5 comes on the-n. hopefully we get a sneak peek of s6 like we did of s5 when the last epi of
s4 came on the-n. i remember how excited i was. i couldnt wait. my mouth dropped 2 the floor when i saw manny pulling her shirt down. i didnt know what 2 think. hopefully i get the same excitement this time around. i also think about the long wait for the new season. it seems like i waited forever for s5, i was just so excited ya know. going through all the bogus spoilers and stuff, and then getting excited about certain ones when deep down u know that its probably not really gonna happen. although the wait and spoilers and all that can be annoying, it's kinda fun when i think back on it. oh and i know im dorky for taking things this seriously. i just really luv the show.

so true. first off, degrassi doesnt do happy endings period but i think ppl are hoping that cranny break up and suddenly craig runs back to ashley and manny falls in love with some random guy. even if he did go back to ash, who says he and manny will completely separate? and what i'd laugh at even more is if manny dumped craig for personal reasons and then he'd run back to ash quickly. i wonder if ppl will start calling ash a "rebound". it would be funny to see the reactions.

Craig is always going to be in Manny's heart anyway, he is her first love. If not she would have been able to move on in season 4/5 but she hasnt. And I dont think Craig would have reunited with her in season 5 if she didnt mean anything to him.

The thing is that Crash didnt survive while Cranny is still going strong. Ashley had Craig and she chucked her chance away. People say that Craig doesnt care about Manny, well if Ashley loved Craig so much why did she dump him for somebody else. How was that a "strong" relationship?

I do think there will probably be Crash tidbits again but I think that him and Ashley getting back together would be stupid. They had their second chance, its gone. He's moved on with Manny.

Chin, you're so right. The writers had so many opportunities to break Cranny up in season 6, but they didn't and that's going to make a breakup very unrealistic. They left season 5 with a positive ending.

Manny isn't the rebound girl. Otherwise they wouldn't have stayed together for so long. Craig didn't seem that upset when Ashley didn't come back. He was more upset with his friends.

Plus Craig never once mentioned Ashley during his relationship with Manny. She certainly is no rebound. Whereas, Manny was mentioned at a couple of points in Crash's relationship. Just an interesting point.

Rebounds don't last almost a year...and (using Liberty's pregnancy as a timeline, which is what I do for Cranny haha) they've lasted almost until then.

I really wanna know if Jake's coming back next year. Cause if not, that means Cranny could be an "offscreen" breakup. The only good thing about that would be that they'd probably just make it a breakup since Craig's away or something, and then at least they'd be on good terms...
