Roman Holiday (1953) #1: "Today's going to be a holiday."

Omg, yay, more people in here! And anytime about starting it, I just wasn't sure anyone else would post with me.

And Andi, I went back and watched one of the special features on the DVD, and remembered seeing the segment about Greg surprising Audrey with the Mouth of Truth thing. Too cute.

I agree, the ending is just perfect! It's so bittersweet and sad, and incredible since she found out the truth, but if they had ended up together, it wouldn't have had the same affect.

Awww, that is a cute story about her accidentally leaving her Oscar in the bathroom, glad she got it back.

And yes, this movie kicked off my Gregory Peck love/crush as well...he was such a dreamy/classic actor/person! He's my fav. classic actor, just as Audrey Hepburn is my fav. classic actress. And they both were incredible people as well, I just admire them so much!

I love this movie. I've been to Rome before, but this movie never fails to make me want to go back. I did love the ending too.

I did not know that! Ahahahahaha! How cute!

That scene when she's gone back to being a princess and she's talking to the reporters - gets me every time. It's so incredibly poignant and intense at the same time. Of course I want them together, but they can't be, and it makes their time together that much more precious - the film, as well. *sigh* I need to watch this one again...

I watched it again yesterday.

I love when Joe first meets her, and thinks she's drunk.

I think their real life friendship added so much to their on-screen relationship.

The ending was sooo sad, so not like classic Hollywood, but that only adds to the charm

Thanks for reviving this.

I loved and didn't like the ending, lol. I liked how they didn't do the typical cheesy ending, but coming from someone who lives for those happy endings, it kinda broke my heart, lol.

Same - I really liked the beginning more than the end, which sadly seems to be the case for Audrey Hepburn movies (I felt the same way for Funny Face and, tragically enough, Breakfast At Tiffanys'). Didn't love Roman Holiday, even if the ending was anti-Hollywood; I did enjoy the scenes between Joe and err, Audrey Hepburn's character (I forgot her name) though.

I wouldn't mind watching it again. And oh! That story about Audrey...

Ann, that was her name.

I liked the stuff after she met Joe, and onward, before, not as much.

I always wonder what happened to Anne and Joe.

I'd imagine Anne would be horribly forced into marriage to fulfill her regal duties.
And Joe would be alone, documenting Anne's life, wondering what could have been.

I like to think they were able to end up together...somewho, down the line.

I always hoped that after he started walking away, she ran back and yelled his name. She ran up to him, gave him a kiss and promised to see him again soon.

I'd like to think that's what happened. A girl can only hope.

Hope... that's what makes the film so beautiful. You watch the film and (unlike so many others) you are left wondering and with hope for Joe and Anne, that they found happiness, if not with each other, then at least with some sort of satisfaction about at least knowing each other for that short time

I've imagined that scenario as well, it's very plausible.

I agree, the ending was bittersweet, yet hopeful, at least in the romantic of hearts.
